Tournament Rules

FORMAT: Four-person scramble tournament.

GOLF ETIQUETTE:

1. Please smooth all marks made in sand bunkers.
2. Leave the putting green as soon as you have holed out.
3. Do not play until the players in front of you are out of range.
4. Balls may be cleaned on the green, and ball marks repaired before
   putting.  
5. Please observe all local course rules.
6. Mulligans and Drive It Like a Pro Drives purchased may only be used once and/or as indicated on the item.
7. Enjoy the day and your fellowship with other golfers!

RULES:

1. A scramble means that all team members tee off on each hole, decide which tee shot they like the best, and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker.
2. The other team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the marked spot. Each team member hits their next shot from the chosen spot of the prior shot.
3. If the ball you choose to play is in a hazard (sand, water, etc.), the rough, or out of bounds, you cannot drop the ball outside of the hazard or rough even if relief is within one club length away.
4. This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts. The ball should be marked on the putting green also.
5. Putts need to be made within 3 inches of the marked spot (no closer to the hole). The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score. When putting, once any ball is holed out, no further strokes count. The team is cautioned not to make “tap” in putts until all team members have had the opportunity to attempt the team’s original putt.
6. Each player’s tee shot must be used at least two times during the 18-hole competition.
7. Men tee off from the gold (standard) tees, men aged 70+ tee off from the green tees, and men aged 80+ and women may tee off from the red tees for all holes EXCEPT the Hole-in-One Contests (Holes 7,10,12,15). These holes have minimum distance requirements, so please refer to Hole-in-One Contest section for tee box requirements for those holes.
8. Threesomes are permitted to rotate a fourth shot from each ball location. In other words, one person will be hitting twice from each position. However, the person hitting two shots cannot do so consecutively. (For example, it’s Player A’s turn to hit two shots. The other team members must play their ball in between Player A’s two shots.)

• The rotation should be set at the beginning of the round, and remain constant throughout.
• An example of this would be: 1. Hole 1 shot1: ABCA  2. Hole1 shot2: BCAB 3. Hole1 shot3: CABC 4. Hole1 shot4: ABCA 5. Hole2 shot1: BCAB.

1. Bogey is your friend. Once your team has taken the number of strokes equal to a bogey (par + 1) for the hole being played, pick up your ball and record a bogey (par + 1) for the hole. This rule is in place to keep the tournament moving quickly.
2. In the case of a tie, tournament staff will compare the scorecards of the teams that have tied, starting with the hole with the highest handicap, moving to the hole with the lowest handicap, continuing until one team has the lowest score on a hole. If this cannot be determined or does not break the tie, the names of the tied parties will be placed in a hat, and the name drawn will be the winner.

MULLIGANS, STRING, AND DRIVE IT LIKE A PRO:

Mulligans: Mulligans may be used on tee shots to take a free second shot from the tee; for putting to move the ball within 3 inches of the original ball position, but no closer to the hole; or for other shots to move the ball within one club length of the original ball position. For balls that land in a hazard, such as sand or water, the player may move the ball up to one club length, but no closer to the hole, and the ball must remain in the hazard area. Unused mulligans may be exchanged for an extra door prize ticket.

String: A team will receive 6’ of string with the purchase of 4 mulligan packages (one for each player only). To use the string, before making any stroke, you can reposition your ball to a better spot (out of a bunker, away from a tree, or directly into the hole). Measure the exact distance the ball was moved, cut that exact length off your piece of string, and discard it. The team may repeat this process until the entire length of string is used.

Drive It Like a Pro: The team may drop their ball in the designated marker area (equivalent to a pro drive) on the designated hole, which counts as their first stroke. 

SKILLS CONTESTS:

Closest to the Pin: If your tee-shot ball is closer to the pin than the Closest to the Pin marker on the designated hole, move the marker to the spot of your ball and record your name on the marker. Only the player’s first shot counts (mulligans and strings may not be used for the contest).  

Longest Drive: If your drive is hit farther than the Longest Drive marker on the designated hole, move the marker to the spot of your ball and record your name on the marker. The ball must land in the fairway to qualify. Only the player’s first shot counts (mulligans and strings may not be used for the contest).  

Hole-in-One Contest: Amateur Golfers (as defined by USGA Rules of Amateur Status) are eligible to compete in this contest. If you are not an amateur and/or are a member of a professional golf association and wish to compete in this contest, please notify the registration desk before the start of the tournament, and we will work with our hole-in-one contest insurer to try to make adjustments to allow you to participate in this contest.

• Major Prize (Hole 7) - Men must tee from gold tees (170 yards minimum), Women and Seniors (defined as 65+ on tournament day) must tee from green tees (155 yards minimum). If the green tees are not a minimum of 155 yards on tournament day, all golfers will tee off from the gold tees. An official (non-playing) observer must be present to witness the shot.
• Bonus Prizes (Holes 10, 12, 15) - Men must tee off from the gold tees on all holes. Women and seniors (defined as 65+ on tournament day) may tee off from the green tees (100 yards minimum). A minimum of two playing partners must observe the shot.

Only the first shot for each player counts. Mulligans and strings may not be used for the contest. In threesomes where one player is playing an additional shot on each hole, only that player’s first shot is eligible for the contest. Payment/award is subject to all American Hole-in-One terms and conditions. Prizes for hole-in-one contests are awarded by American Hole-in-One following submission and verification of a claim and required documentation. The American Legion TX Post 179 is not liable for non-payment in the event of a denied claim.

Marshmallow Drive: Each entrant receives 2 marshmallows. The marshmallow hit the farthest wins (only one shot per marshmallow).  

These rules are subject to change before the start of the tournament. In the event of severe weather (tremendously unlikely), the event will be moved indoors and will take place at American Legion Walton F. Hoffmann Memorial Post 179, 410 W. Coll St, New Braunfels, TX. Teams will compete in a variety of indoor games for the various prizes.
